How Will CBD Help To Support Winter Wellness

CBD

As CBD grows in acceptance and popularity in the US, it’s easy to find articles and blog posts and your friends’ opinions on social media that suggest CBD is a cure-all.

One of the challenges of responsibly marketing CBD is to stay above that din, and make realistic recommendations that do not violate any best practices, guidelines, or laws governing the sale and use of dietary supplements.

In order to help consumers use supplements responsibly, we need to be cognizant of the fact that supplements are not cures. They do not work in place of medical advice or prescription medications, though there are plenty of passionate consumers of herbal supplements, CBD products, and health foods who declare otherwise.

So let’s take a look at a couple ways you can use CBD to complement your winter wellness routines.

1. Sleep

Many adults struggle to sleep well, or to stay asleep through the night. A study published in Permanente Journal indicated that CBD did help some subjects fall and stay asleep.

In order to get the best results from your use of CBD for sleep, also try the following tricks:

  • Avoid screens for at least two hours before bed--consider reading, listening to soft music, or doing a puzzle instead of watching TV or doom scrolling Facebook.
  • Don’t eat too close to bedtime--allow at least three hours to pass between your last food and bed time.
  • Don’t drink coffee, soda, fruit juice, or other drinks that contain caffeine or sugar for at least an hour before bedtime.
  • Consider using Melatonin in addition to CBD at bedtime

Sometimes, sleep is disrupted by racing thoughts, worries, or other stressors and anxieties, so take care to tend to your mental health and stress levels, too.

2. Stress

We all know stress can disrupt your body’s ability to function properly and to adequately fight viruses and infections. Whether your stress comes from work or from a condition like anxiety or depression, it can hamper your body’s ability to fight infections and stay well through the winter months.

According to the same study noted above, CBD did help diminish anxiety for more than half the subjects. However, CBD is just one option for treatment of emotional and psychological disruptions.

Try some of these, as well:

  • Talk to a therapist. If you’ve never spoken with a mental health professional, you might be surprised how helpful it is to have a person to listen to you talk through some of your troubles.
  • Read a self-help book that addresses specific struggles you’re experiencing. A quick google search or your therapist can help you find the right titles.
  • Get sweaty! Exercise increases the release of endorphins, which help people stay happy and joyful. Exercising even for fifteen minutes each day can help reduce your general stress and anxiety levels.

And of course, you can boost your winter wellness by eating well, avoiding large groups of folks, and keeping distance from loved ones who are sick. Use good hand-washing practices before and after meals, or any time you touch your face, mouth, nose, or eyes.

Best of health to you this winter!
